For Income Support IS or Jobseeker's Allowance JSA , you are classed as working full time and therefore not eligible for the benefit if you do 16 hours or more paid work per week.
Your partner is allowed to do paid work of less than 24 hours per week. If you are working less than 16 hours per week, and your partner is working less than 24 hours per week, then you may be eligible to claim these benefits but the amount you are entitled to could be affected by any earnings you have.

If you claim income-related ESA, your partner can work less than 24 hours per week doing any type of paid work but their earnings could affect the amount you are entitled to. In both of these cases, you must be available to attend a job interview within forty eight hours. You must also be ready to take a job with only one week's notice. These times can get extended if you are caring for a child under 16 years old.
Being responsible for a child less than 16 often provides the best opportunity for you to be claiming JSA and working under 16 hours a week. You may not be entitled to JA in certain situations. If your spouse, civil partner or cohabitant is getting a social welfare payment in his or her own right with some exceptions or is on a Further Education and Training FET course or VTOS course and getting an allowance you will not get an IQA, but you will get a half-rate increase for any qualified children.
