Who is headless annie
Some miners disappeared from the work crews as company men allegedly began silencing the workers by killing those who refused to work. The men, undeterred, stood their ground, either by picketing or continuing to spread the news of unionizing efforts throughout the company and Harlan County. But we are just a little ways into the legend of Headless Annie and Bloody Harlan. The mine owners figured, silence the ringleader; that way no one else would dare cross them again.
So company men set out to do their work. What would soon take place was quite gruesome. Late one night, the company sent out men to Big Black Mountain where they captured the troublesome mine worker, his wife and his daughter Annie. The company goons dragged the trio into the woods after they pulled them from their home. The men the company sent out to do their dirty work for them were not your run of the mill thugs.
The legend has it that these men were sick and demented in every sense of the word. After arriving at the spot which they decided would be the final resting place for the miner, they stopped. Many years ago, Kentucky was coal-mining country and Harlan County was where most of the mining camps were set up. There was a huge demand for coal and just about every able-bodied man in the area was hired to work in the coal mines. However, at that time, being a miner was a very dangerous job and the men started going on strike to force their bosses to increase their pay.
The bosses responded by killing some of the miners on the picket lines and Harlan County became known as Bloody Harlan. According to the legend, around this time, there was a year old girl named Annie who lived on Big Black Mountain. Her father worked in the mines and he became very outspoken about wanting the workers to form a union. He became a thorn in the side of the mining companies and they wanted to make an example of him so that nobody else would dare to cross them. One night, the bosses sent a group of thugs out to Big Black Mountain.
They dragged Annie and her father and mother out of bed and led them into the forest. Then, they hung his body on a meat hook that they tied high up in a tree, so he could bleed to death like a slaughtered pig. Annie was forced to watch as they murdered her mother in the same grisly fashion.
The men chopped off her head and threw her body off a huge cliff that runs alongside the road. She lay there, undiscovered for days, while wild animals feasted on her carcass. Her murderers were never brought to justice. Some people claim to have seen her headless figure, dresssed in a nightgown and surrounded by an unearthly glow. They say that when you pass by, she jumps onto the hood of your car and causes the engine to stall. These miners stood their ground, while standing on the picket lines in Harlan County.
From these events happening, this place earned the name Bloody Harlan. One day, a 12 year old little girl named Annie would soon face her fate. Her father, worked at the mines and was outspoken about what was going on. He wanted to form a union and resistance to what was happening. The mining companies here, wanted to make an example of him. This was done so that others would fall in line, obeying anything and everything that they were told to do.
They figured, that no one else would dare cross them again. What soon followed was quite gruesome. It was late in the nighttime hours, when the bosses decided to hire and send a group of thugs out towards Big Black Mountain.
Soon enough, both Annie and her father crosses paths with them. They were then dragged out into the woods after being taken from their home. These men were demented in every sense of the word. They first made little Annie watch her father have his legs cut off.
